On behalf of the committee of the
South Downs Branch, I'd like to welcome you to our website. We hope
that you'll find the format an interesting, helpful and informative
way of keeping you up to date with the branch's activities and
events and also with other IOSH activities which are of particular
interest to you.
This is the start of a new period in IOSH, as there are several
major changes taking place both at management level and at branch
level.
We hope that you'll find the new website helpful and that it'll
soon become your website of choice for the latest information and
news relating to health and safety.
May we also take this opportunity to inform you that we
are hosting our annual seminar at the 'All England
Jumping Course' in Hickstead, Sussex. The seminar
titled 'Take a Jump Towards Safe
Working Behaviour' will have three influential subject
matter speakers to stimulate your interest and provide you with
ideas on how to influence behaviours in the workplace. Full
details including booking information and prices are included
within the event flyer.

Last Branch Meeting - April 2012
The Safe Use of Industrial, Laboratory,
Medical and Cryogenic Gases - Roger Palmer, Argusafe Consulting and
Training Limited
Roger gave an outstanding presentation,
comprehensively covering the majority of issues dealing with the
safe use and handling of hazardous gases not only in the workplace
but during transporting between supplier and end user.
Roger's knowledge was pretty impressive and certainly kept the
audience enthraled during his one hour slot which seemed to last
half that time. The majority of those present requested that
the branch invite Roger back in the future but give him longer to
speak.
The picture inserted above is one of the instances that Roger
described where abuse plays part in some of the incidents that
occur in the workplace and some peoples complacency regarding a
hazard that can't be seen. The picture shows an ingenuous way
of providing a worker with oxygen using a cutting gun as the
delivery mechanism.
The branch thanked Roger in the usual way for a
very informative presentation delivered by a very accomplished
speaker.
